Internal Regulations

At Surf’Scool, we place special importance on the safety of our students. We work in different stages of training (beginners, intermediate and advanced), as well as in different settings (social, recreational and competitive) with the aim of bringing surfing to everyone. Our methodology is based on safety and fun.

Surf'Scool General Guiding Principles

This Regulation aims to define the main guidelines that govern Surf’Scool, so that students know their rights and duties, as well as the main rules of operation of the school and the definition of the commitment we assume with them regardless of their age, surfing level, gender or nationality.

Article 1 (General Principles)

  • This Internal Regulation applies to Surf’Scoaol, Lda, the owner of Surf’Scool, hereinafter referred to in this Regulation as Surf’Scool.

  • This regulation is intended for all students attending the school, regardless of their level or the type of classes they attend.

  • Surf’Scool aims to teach Surfing and Bodyboarding and is a certified Surf and Bodyboard School by the Portuguese Surfing Federation and Turismo de Portugal, with the registration number RNAAT 372/2015.

  • Surf’Scool reserves the right to refuse registrations.

Article 2 (Documentation)

  1. Students must fill out their own student form before the first class;

  2. Underage students must have, in their student file, authorization from their guardian stating that they can participate in class.

Article 3 (Sports insurance)

Surf’Scool students are insured with personal accident and civil liability insurance with policy number 207131929 from Companhia Allianz.

Article 4 (Payments and refunds)

  1. Payment for classes can be made in cash, bank transfer or MB Way;

  2. Payment for the class, pack or upgrade is mandatory before the class starts. If payment is made by bank transfer or MB Way, proof of payment must be presented;

  3. Each student can only upgrade the class pack that has already been purchased;

  4. Individual classes must be paid for at the time of registration;

  5. The Surf Academy monthly fee must be paid by the 8th of each month;

  6. Surf’Scool reserves the right to refuse to reimburse any amounts duly calculated and received for payment of its services, unless there is evidence of sudden illness, prolonged convalescence or serious physical injury resulting from an accident, preventing the use of our services;

  7. Refunds can only be claimed during the validity period of the class packs and upon presentation of a medical certificate;

  8. To calculate the refund, the classes taken will be considered, based on the individual price, as set out in our price list, and the difference in relation to the amount paid will be refunded.

Article 5 (Pack validity periods)

  1. All class packs are valid for one year;

  2. This period may vary whenever the school is unable to teach or upon presentation of a medical certificate by the student.

Article 6 (Classes)

  1. Group classes operate with a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 5 students per group, as long as the level of the students is the same;

  2. The groups are made up by Surf’Scool, the student does not have to worry about forming the group;

  3. Classes include all materials, insurance and teacher;

  4. A student’s classes are not necessarily all taught by the same teacher;

  5. Classes are mixed, only separated by levels and ages (children/adults);

  6. Surf’Scool recommends a minimum age of 6 years old to take classes;

  7. Classes last 90 minutes. This time starts when students start putting on their costumes and ends when they arrive at Surf’Scool’s facilities;

  8. Changes may occur to scheduled classes due to bad sea conditions or weather conditions, so Surf’Scool will provide ways of communicating with students to cancel the affected classes.

Article 7 (Learning levels)

  1. Surf’Scool has 3 distinct levels of learning:
    1.1. Beginner – Students who make their first contact with the sport;
    1.2. Intermediate – Students with some autonomy, who clearly identify safety rules and priorities, who row towards the line-up with some sea reading;
    1.3. Advanced – Independent students who know and respect the priority rules, perform the take-off knowing how to choose the waves in the line-up.

  2. Surf’Scool also has a Competitive level that will only apply to Surf Academy students.

Article 8 (Scheduling of classes)

  1. Classes are scheduled weekly by Surf’Scool, depending on weather conditions and sea conditions;

  2. Preferably, classes will be at 10:30am and 3.30pm, although there may be other times upon registration and availability of Surf’Scool or due to sea conditions.

Article 9 (Absences)

  1. An absence (class given) is considered when the student does not attend the class, having previously confirmed his/her presence;

  2. Students can cancel scheduled classes until 7 pm the day before;

  3. Absences with the right to compensation are only accepted upon presentation of a plausible justification.

Article 10 (Material)

  1. In classes, all the necessary material (wetsuit, leash, wax, board, etc.) is provided by the school (included in the price of the class), with the exception of the towel, which must be brought by the student;

  2. It is mandatory to wear a swimsuit/bikini underneath the surfing suit, for hygiene reasons;

  3. In Surf Academy classes, it is up to the student to bring their own equipment.

Article 11 (Material Rental)

  1. The customer must fill out the equipment rental form, make the payment and leave a photo ID to proceed with the equipment rental;

  2. When renting wetsuits, it is mandatory to wear a swimsuit/bikini underneath the wetsuit for hygiene reasons;

  3. The customer must check the conditions of the material to be rented, together with a Surf’Scool employee, as he/she is responsible for any damage found to it;

  4. The rented material must be delivered within the established deadline, under penalty of having to pay the amount of the rental modality that follows in the price list;

  5. Surf’Scool will not refund any amount for unused time on a rental;

  6. Surf’Scool may charge a €50 deposit for some materials;

  7. Surf’Scool reserves the right to refuse rentals;

  8. Surf’Scool is not responsible for accidents occurring during the performance of activities resulting from equipment rental and the user may not, under any circumstances, be compensated for any accident that may occur.

Article 12 (Prevention and Safety)

  1. Surf’Scool declines any and all liability for damages resulting from willful acts or omissions carried out in our facilities or activities.

  2. For underage students, parents are obliged to ensure that their children comply with the terms and conditions of these internal regulations, as well as their children’s behavior and attitudes during classes.

  3. The student acknowledges and accepts that the personal data provided to Surf’Scool has been or may be structured and managed by the same, with the aim of complying with and ensuring compliance with these clauses or for the purpose of promoting or directly advertising goods or services related to the school’s activities or that may be of interest to the student. The data provided to Surf’Scool may also be used to report to the insurance company, if necessary. Without the student’s express prior authorisation, Surf’Scool may not transfer, sell or transmit personal data to third parties.

Article 13 (Omissions)

The decision to be taken in all cases not covered by these Regulations will be the responsibility of Surf’Scool’s technical management.

Article 14 (Final provisions)

This Regulation is valid from the day the Surf School began operating, except for legal requirements.
